Head and Neck cancers are one of the most common cancers affecting Indian subcontinent. Most of these cancers can be attributable to tobacco in all forms including chewing, smoking and betel nut. Alcohol may have a synergistic effect in the formation of cancer. The most common symptoms are an non healing ulcer, difficulty in swallowing, bad odor from mouth, voice change, difficulty in mouth opening, asymmetric swelling on face and enlargement of neck nodes. Proper evaluation requires a thorough examination and assessment of the disease since the changes of disease may be present in buccal mucosa beyond visible lesion. Hence it is very important that the person examining should be well qualified and experienced. A chest X Ray and CT or MRI scan Should be helpful in evaluating the disease.
